Study circle: Capitalocene - understanding our place in environmental history

This is a study circle in English, focusing on climate change understood through marxist, feminist, postcolonial, and environmentalist lenses. We will read Capitalism in the Web of Life by Jason Moore, which develops the concept of ‘Capitalocene’ as a way to understand our time in environmental history. He suggests that we should analyze environmental history bearing in mind the impact of capitalist mode of production and the related shifts in patriarchy, racialization, and different components of the environment. We think this book is interesting because it provides an intersectional, totalizing account of interrelations between different forms of oppression that are often seen as distinct, and because it gives us new tools to understand climate change in terms of politics and life.

The study circle will run for six meetings, starting April 5th, and meeting every other Tuesday (even weeks). We will meet in Krakel’s location at Brobygatan 7 in Malmö from 6.30-8.00 pm. This is the link to the registration form!

To participate, you have to be a member of Krakel (150 SEK/year). Those who are not already members can become members when registering for the study circle.
