In times of ecological devastation and climate crisis we desperately need to restore reciprocal relationships to the natural world we spring from. Traditional and indigenous ecological knowledge, since long suppressed in western societies, contains perspectives helpful, maybe even essential, if we are to heal the ecological damage done by capitalism.
Robin Wall Kimmerer, professor of environmental and forest biology and a member of the Potawatomi tribe, is the author of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants, a collection of essays and stories about traditional ecological knowledge as an alternative or complimentary approach to modern science. In this study circle we will together read and discuss how this kind of perspective can enrich ecosocialist visions, especially in Nordic and European contexts, as well as our personal and collective lives under current conditions.
The study circle will be held in English, with a maximum of 12 participants and will be led by Erik and Amanda. We’ll be meeting every other Wednesday between 19.00 and 21.00 at Krakels premises at Brobygatan 7 in Malmö. Our intro meeting will be on the 13th of September, followed by meetings on September 27th, October 11th, October 25th, November 8th and November 22nd.
Krakel’s activities are done in collaboration with ABF Malmö.
